Purpose
In both the 3-hour and the 6-hour workshops we study and practice the fundamental components and skills of Nonviolent Communication – these 6-hour intensive workshops give us much more opportunity to discuss in-depth and practice these concepts on personally-relevant situations.
It is the regular practice of NVC that empowers you to access these skills when you really need them, not merely the knowledge about it. These longer workshops give you far more opportunity to strengthen the necessary understanding and skill.
In case you missed it: What is NVC?
Participants
These events are intended for those who have no prior experience with NVC and for those with experience who are seeking a review. Reading the Nonviolent Communication book (3rd Edition) is suggested, but not necessary before attending.
Duration
Split over a Friday evening (about 2 hours), and a Saturday morning (about 4 hours), these workshops tend to be 6 to 7 hours long in total, with periodic breaks.
Agenda
A typical introductory workshop may look like this:
- Introduction of the teachers
- Overview of NVC
- Intro to the first concept: Observations versus Evaluations
- Intro to the second concept: Feelings versus Thoughts
- Break
- Intro to the third concept: Needs versus Strategies
- Intro to the fourth concept: Requests versus Demands
- Offering Empathy to Self and Others
The exploration of each concept includes examples, and private or interactive exercises to practice the skills. Participants are encouraged to interact with the others only to the extent they are comfortable with.
Note
These workshops can be expanded or customized to fit the needs and context of a private group or team.
